Head Coach Alan Seretti
In August 2009, Alan Seretti was named as the head men’s basketball coach at Dickinson College. In the past six seasons, his Red Devil teams have rewritten the school record books producing three NCAA Tournament appearances, including an appearance in the "Elite 8" in 2014. They have made four Centennial Conference Championship game appearances, earning one regular season conference championship and the Centennial Conference tournament championships in 2013 and 2015.
In 2014-15, the Red Devils advanced to the 'Sweet 16' for the second straight season, capturing its second Centennial Conference title in the past three seasons. Dickinson earned its second consecutive CC Player of the Year honor as Gerry Wixted '15 was honored, following 2014 Player of the Year, Adam Honig '14. Wixted was named the D3hoops.com National Player of the Year, becoming the first Centennial Conference Player to receive the honor. He became the program's all-time leading scorer, finishing with 1,903 points in his career. The Red Devils hosted the opening round of the NCAA Tournament for the second time in 2015, posting a win over Regis College and a buzzer-beating thriller to top Albertus Magnus, 74-72. Dickinson traveled to Randolph Macon for the next round, suffering a 75-65 setback to Virginia Wesleyan. The Devils finished 24-6 overall, matching the school record for wins with the third straight 20-win season under Seretti. The championship win over Johns Hopkins gave Seretti his 100th victory at Dickinson. He finished the season with an overall mark of 147-124 and a record of 102-64 in his six years with the Red Devils.
The 2013-2014 Dickinson College men’s basketball team finished the season at 24-7 and one victory shy of a Final Four appearance after a loss to perennial NCAA power Illinois Wesleyan. The Red Devils advanced to the Elite 8 by defeating CCIW Champion Wheaton College in the Sweet 16 by a final score of 81-71. However, the benchmark victory during the surprising tournament run came in the second round when Dickinson defeated #8 The College of Wooster, at Wooster 67-64. The defeat was only the fifteenth loss at home for Wooster over the past ten years. The Red Devils earned their way into the NCAA Tournament through an at-large bid which recognized their regular season conference championship (15-3 CC) and outstanding non-conference victories over Guilford College, Alvernia University and Catholic University. Both the 24 overall wins and 15 conference victories once again set school records for success in a single season. Seretti and staff were named Mid-Atlantic Coaches of the Year and nominated for the Glenn Robinson National Coach of the Year Award following the season.
The 2012-2013 Red Devils enjoyed a record setting season as they marched on to the school’s first Centennial Conference Championship since 1997. The team won the tournament championship with a 64-40 victory at rival and three-time defending champion Franklin & Marshall College. The title also earned the team an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament where they hosted and defeated Marietta College for the school’s first opening round victory ever. The twenty-one season victories (21-8) and thirteen regular season conference victories (13-5) also set new school records.
The 2011-2012 team made a second straight appearance in the Centennial Conference Semi-Finals and finished the season with a record of 14-12 (11-7 CC). The season was highlighted by a month long stretch which saw the Red Devils win nine of ten games. It was the first time in school history that the squad made back to back appearances in the conference semifinals.
In 2010-2011, the team shocked the Centennial Conference by posting a 15-12 record and the single-best turnaround season in the history of the league. Following an inaugural campaign of 4-19 in 2009-2010, the Red Devils won nine of their last ten games before falling to nationally ranked Franklin & Marshall College in the Centennial Conference Championship game. At the time, the twelve conference wins were a school record and the fifteen total victories marked only the second time in the past twelve years that the team finished over .500. Seretti and his staff were named Centennial Conference Coach of the Year for the turnaround.
Several Red Devil players have also been recognized for their individual accomplishments over the past five seasons highlighted by the 2013-2014 appearance of Adam Honig ’14 on the D3hoops.com All-American team. Honig and Gerry Wixted ’15 were also selected as All-Mid-Atlantic Region performers by several outlets and shared a place on the All-Centennial Conference First-Team, with Honig becoming the first CC Player of the Year in Dickinson Basketball History. The two had been fellow All-First Team selections in 2012-2013 as well and it marked the first time that Dickinson had ever been represented by teammates on the First-Team.
Wixted was also named Second-Team All-Region by the National Association of Basketball Coaches that season while both he and Honig were recognized by D3Hoops.com as All-Mid-Atlantic performers. In 2011-2012, Wixted became only the sixth first-year in the history of the CC to be named on the All-Conference Second-Team while Honig shared second team honors as well. The 2010-2011 season saw two Red Devils recognized as senior Matt Dolan ’11 was named to the All-CC First-Team while Honig became just the eleventh first-year to be named to the Honorable Mention squad.
A 1999 graduate of Allegheny College and 2002 graduate of the Duquesne University School of Law, Seretti spent the previous four seasons as the head men’s basketball coach at fellow Division III member Penn State–Altoona. At Altoona, Seretti led the Lions to three consecutive Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament appearances. Penn State Altoona set the school record for wins with 14 in each of his last two seasons and earned the first postseason bid in the history of the program with an invitation to the Eastern College Athletic Conference tournament in 2009. In 2007-08, the Lions advanced to the AMCC semifinals for the first time in school history, earning Seretti Co-Coach of the Year honors.
Seretti arrived at Penn State–Altoona from Washington & Jefferson College, where he served as the assistant men’s basketball coach for three years. While there, he assisted another turnaround which saw the Presidents go from last place in year one, to a conference tournament championship appearance in his third and final season.
As an assistant coach, Seretti also helped guide the Seton LaSalle High School girls’ basketball team to a District 7 Class AA Championship and an appearance in the PIAA quarterfinals. In his time coaching college basketball, Seretti has had the opportunity to recruit and develop the leading career scorers in both Washington & Jefferson and Altoona history, as well as the most successful four-year classes each school has ever seen.
Seretti has also worked a variety of basketball camps including Villanova University, Wake Forest University, the University of Pittsburgh and the Bob Hurley Basketball Camp. Seretti has played and worked under successful coaches Jerry Conboy, Ron Galbreath, Phil Ness and Karel Jelinek.
Seretti and wife Jessica live in Carlisle with their three children, twins Luciana and Eisley born in 2009, and daughter Cecelia, born in 2014.
